HCSD Calls for Metrics to Remove Masks

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Wool developed and provided a letter asking Governor Hochul to establish metrics for the safe removal of masks in school settings and to permit students to “Test to Stay'' in the event of exposure to COVID-19. On Friday, November 12, 2021, the letter was endorsed by 78 school superintendents of the Lower Hudson Council of School Superintendents. The letter was shared with the Commissioner of Education and the New York State Education Department Chancellor, who have both indicated their support. Senator Mayer also joined in supporting the development of New York State Department of Health standards.

Creating a unified regional voice communicates to the Governor and other policymakers that school leaders stand together and are prepared to implement common-sense measures to return to normalcy in our schools for students. As the letter details, the superintendents are seeking metrics and support from the Governor, our elected officials, and the New York State Department of Health.
